Don McLean -American Pie (1971)

The title track, to the 1971 album, of the same name, American Pie, by Don McLean reached number one, for four weeks, in the USA, in 1972. In 1971 it reached number two, for three weeks in the UK.

The main theme “The Day The Music Died” refers to the February 1959 plane crash, that killed Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Havens.
